Martin Keown doesn’t believe that Jose Mourinho will be at Manchester United for a long time, but he’s sure that the Portuguese will be successful while he is.
In his Daily Mail season preview, the former defender discussed the effect the former Chelsea manager would have on a United team who have their weakest couple of years since the Premier League started.
Is Mourinho right about Manchester United’s nine axed players?
Keown said: “He has had so much success over the years as an impact manager, and I think this is what he’ll do at United. I can’t see him being there for the next 10 years, but he will make things happen quickly.
“And you can see by his aggressive dealings in the transfer market that his ambition hasn’t waned after what happened at Chelsea last season.”
The former Arsenal player knows what it takes to secure the tile having won it three time with the Gunners and he feels the forwards at Old Trafford could hold the key to Mourinho’s success.
He added: "It'll be interesting to see what Mourinho can get from Wayne Rooney. I quite liked the look of him in midfield at times, but the 30-year-old has already said he is working as a striker again in training. I can see him forming a potent partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.”
United start their campaign at Bournemouth on Sunday as they look to bounce back from last season’s fifth placed finish and FA Cup win.
